Sports betting: what a price actually tells you
This section covers the basics of sports betting in a way that applies to any bookmaker. Licensing comes first
Sports betting is a licensed activity in most European countries. If you play from Hungary, sports betting is supervised by the SZTFH, and its website (sztfh.hu) publishes the list of permit holders and a register of blocked gambling sites. We did not find Slotoro among the Hungarian permit holders. Wherever you live, check the operator's licence at the issuing regulator's public register — our about page explains how we do it.
Reading decimal odds
Decimal odds are standard across Europe. Odds of 2.50 mean a winning 10-unit stake returns 25 units, stake included. Turned around, odds give the bookmaker's implied probability: 1 / 2.50 = 40%. If you believe the event is more likely than that, the bet has value in theory — but most of the time the market knows the probabilities better than any of us.
The margin you do not see
In a two-way match where both sides are priced at 1.90, the implied probabilities add up to 52.6% + 52.6% = 105.3%. The part above 100% is the bookmaker's margin — the sportsbook equivalent of a house edge. The bigger the margin, the less you get back over time. Comparing the same market at two bookmakers quickly shows who prices more tightly. The figures here are illustrations, not Slotoro prices.

Bankroll management
In betting, as in casino games, the budget is your most important tool. Fix a monthly amount and stake only a small part of it on any single bet.
