Cricket betting: an honest note for newcomers
Cricket is huge in some parts of the world and almost unknown in others — including Central Europe, where much of our readership lives. That matters for betting: if you do not know a sport's rules and players, the bookmaker almost certainly knows more than you. So this page does not encourage cricket betting; it explains the basics so you can see what you would be getting into. The game in one paragraph
Two teams take turns to bat and bowl. The batting side collects runs; the bowling side tries to dismiss batters (take wickets). The side with more runs wins. The details — the many ways to be dismissed, what a boundary is worth — are complex, and they are exactly what you should learn before betting.
Three formats, three different sports

Format changes the game so much that a team's strength in one says little about the others.
Typical markets
- Match winner: in Tests, the draw is also an outcome.
- Top batter / top bowler: individual performance within a team.
- Total runs: over/under on one or both teams' runs.
- Toss winner: pure chance — its margin is pure long-run loss.
Weather and pitch
Rain can interrupt or shorten a match, and then complex calculation methods decide the result. The pitch condition also shifts the balance between bowlers and batters. What happens to a bet on an interrupted match is set out in the bookmaker's rules.
Why caution is the right attitude
With an unfamiliar sport you cannot judge whether a price is good or bad, so a bet becomes little more than paying the bookmaker's margin for a random outcome. If cricket interests you, watch a few matches without betting first. The general logic is on our bet types page.
